  • BJFe Dyna Red Distortion (DRD) - a British-style plexi offering with classic voicing in the vintage JTM45 area.

    Dyna Red Distortion is a dynamic, harmonic, and "Plexi"-like distortion pedal that was released on May 9, 2001. DRD can create a variety of tones from a crunchy low gain to a heavy crunchy tone with a clean amp. If the Drive knob is set to the left of 12 o'clock, it will be a dynamic distortion that can be adjusted by your pick attack, and if it is set higher than 12 o'clock, it will be a full distortion that always gives a stronger distortion. Especially when using DRD with a clean amp, you can easily adjust the distortion as you want. Especially when LGW is placed in the front stage, it features a comfortable playing and a clear sound.  In addition to LGW, it is also great to combine it with EGDM and HBOD. DRD also works well with distorted amps, but depending on the characteristics and settings of the amp, the "crunchiness" may be a little stronger, so try to find the sweet spot with DRD and the settings on the amp. The earliest DRD was called "Fuzz 2" ("Fuzz 1" was BBOD). In fact, DRD is the "Big Bad Brother" of BBOD. 100% original design, handmade with the best components. In addition to the various pedals mentioned above, the design was intended to be used simultaneously with BBOD in the front stage. Combining BBOD and DRD gives you a wide tone palette. From sweet overdrive and crunchy distortion to fuzz territory. DRD is more dynamic and less compressed than BBOD, but at the same time has a higher gain, with BBOD in the high mids and DRD in the low mids. DRD has a stronger low end and a completely different top end. The tone is more aggressive and has a stronger crunchy feel. It is suitable for playing with a strong and weak picking. If the BBOD is the smooth "Mystic Mile" of blues territory, the DRD is like driving on the "Highway to Hell". The early DRD was a flat red color with a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, but since 2004 it has been changed to a three-dimensional oil-based color. It was originally developed as a distortion suitable for low-output humbuckers and P-90 pickups. Rare models of the DRD thatwere once made include the "Dynamic Orange Distortion" and "Doc Rock's Distortion", as well as a version equipped with a blue LED. The DIST knob adjusts the strength and sustain of the distortion. If you set it low, it is a sensitive distortion that distorts when you play the strings hard, and if you set it high, the compression becomes stronger, and the sound changes from a touch-sensitive sound to a stable-oriented sound. However, the sound is clear and has a long sustain. If you set this knob lower than 12 o'clock, you can also use it like a gain booster. It is also effective when you want to place an overdrive in front of the DRD, or adjust heavy distortion to clean with the guitar volume. Start setting it from around 11 o'clock. The Treble knob adjusts the high frequencies of the output signal. It is also effective as a balance control of the tone when the effect is on/off. Since the DRD has a high treble response, if you set the clean sound to be a little bright, you can turn this knob down to avoid the high frequencies becoming noisy when the effect is on. Conversely, if you set it beyond 12 o'clock, you can increase the brilliance of the tone. Start setting this knob from the 12 o'clock position. The Vol. knob adjusts the volume balance when the effect is on/off. Start by setting it just a little lower than 12 o'clock, and adjust the tone from there. The DRD has a high input impedance to match guitar pickups, and the output is set to a maximum value of about 20K to match guitar amplifiers, many effects, and tape echoes.The DRD runs on a 6F22 9V battery or a standard 2.1mm barrel type center negative DC9V adapter. The current consumption is about 3.9mA (2.8mA when the effect is OFF). When the supply voltage drops to 6V, the sound becomes muffled and the LED becomes dim.
